Cookies!

So, you know how when you are on a lengthy phone call sometimes you feel like you should do something productive while you're talking. Well I decided to bake up some of Dave's favorite oatmeal cookies. I already had the dough in the freezer, so all I had to do was cut a dozen from the roll, put them on the pan and bake them. Easy right? Well, I forgot the set the timer part and continued on with my phone conversation with my mom. About 20 minutes later I remembered the cookies. Oops, sorry Dave!

Then Kellie & Chris stopped over with cookies of their own. Apparently McCain is winning according to the great bakery election.

Tonight we're off to Chris & Kellie's to celebrate Chris's 23rd birthday. Should be fun!

2 OUT OF 3 AINT BAD

After sitting through a disappointing OU/Texas game, with a very unhappy Drew, I thought it might end up being a bad day for Oklahoma college football. Formerly #1 ranked OU lost to #5 Texas 45-35.

Kellie & Chris came over later in the afternoon to watch the OSU/Missouri game. What a nailbiter! #17 OSU ended up stunning #3 Missouri before a sellout Mizzou crowd 28-23. It was so exciting -- back and forth, but in the end the Cowboys added another W to their undefeated season.

We had to watch the scrolling scores across the bottom of the screen to catch updates of the TU/SMU game. Tulsa trailed a lot of the game but ended up escaping with a 37-31 win, their first victory at SMU since 1991.

So OSU and TU remain undefeated with 6-0 starts while OU fell to 5-1. I won't even talk about the disappointing Badgers. :-((

Go Sooners! Go Cowboys! Go Hurricane!

Another BIG college football day here in Oklahoma. #1 ranked OU will be playing at #5 Texas, #17 OSU at #3 Missouri, and TU will play at SMU. It sure would be great if they could all be 6-0 at the end of the day.

Katie called me at midnight the other day. It always worries me when my phone rings late at night. She was freaking out because she discovered the source of the strange odor in her dorm room (stranger than smelly soccer gear). A mouse was caught halfway in the trap and apparently had been there for a few days. Ewwwww! She called me to get instructions on how to unwind/open the trap. One of their football buddies came to their rescue and took care of it for them. I think they should just go back to the sticky traps and forget trying to catch it alive.

Last night Katie came home with one of her soccer friends for a nice dinner. They always appreciate good home cooking. I guess they are getting a little tired of cafeteria food.

The weather has been just perfect lately -- upper 70's, low 80's. I'm gonna go enjoy this beautiful day!

This has been a good week, nothing special, but good. I'm getting to the point in my catching up around here that I really need to start thinking about the garage -- going through all the junk to figure out what we want and what we don't. I wish I could blink and have it done.

With all of the financial problems in the world I'm thinking about going back to work more and more -- just as soon as I get that garage done. :-)

Chris sure has some terrific perks with his job. It seems that every week there are opportunities to win tickets for some event. This week it was the "2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars." I told Kellie if he won and didn't want to go I'd be happy to go with her. Well, he won and Chris did not want to go. Kellie called and asked if I would mind if she asked Katie to go with her instead of me. I held back my tears (sniff, sniff) and said of course I wouldn't mind. It always made my mom happy (and it still does) to see me do things with my sisters. I know what she means. I wasn't able to go along, but they had fun texting me and telling me what a great show I was missing. Katie said they were so close (2nd row) she could tackle Shawn Johnson (she controlled herself). She also appreciated it when the guys took off their shirts (hmmm, wonder why?). Kellie said the girls were bigger than they expected and the guys were smaller. They both could have done without the lip-synching Disney singers. They had a great time and I'm happy they got to be together.

Now, you would think a child of mine would certainly have a camera for such an exciting show, wouldn't you? NO! Neither of them had a camera except for their cell phones. Here are a couple video clips courtesy of Kellie's cell phone.

They said the girls were very professional and conservative but the guys were wild and crazy. They didn't hold back and did some amazing performances. At one time there were three guys on the pommel horse at the same time!

So while they spent the night with Shawn Johnson, Nastia Luikin, Alecia Sacramonie, Shannon Miller and the entire men's Olympic gymnastics team (including the Hamm twins), I was home waiting for text updates and proud that my girls were having such a good time together.

Where the Wins Come Sweeping Down the Plain - Haha!

On the front page of the Tulsa World today (not the sports section) is football. The headline is A 5-0 First. State teams stay perfect in historic start. All three of the major universities in Oklahoma won their football games yesterday and each has a perfect record so far. OU and OSU are 5-0 for the first time since 2004 and TU is 5-0 for the first time since 1945. OU beat Baylor 49-17, OSU/Texas A&M 56-28, and Tulsa/Rice 63-28. I'm not usually much of a college football fan but with Kellie being an OSU alumni, Katie at TU and Drew a huge OU fan, it's pretty exciting around here. Katie was at the TU game and kept me updated with text messages. For a while it was pretty close -- "intense" is the word she used. On a side note -- Dave was very disappointed in the Badgers. :-( But happy the Brewers finally won one. Yay!

I spent yesterday afternoon with Kellie & Katie. We went to lunch at Red Robin where a loud group of waiters and waitresses sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Then we went to a craft show. It's been a long time since Katie has gone to a craft show with us. It was nice. Here's one of Kellie's purchases:

Enjoy your Sunday!

Birthday Girl

Last night we had a wonderful evening celebrating Katie's 19th birthday at her favorite restaurant, PF Changs. The food is so good and it's a special place for us. I think all of us choose Changs to celebrate our birthdays.

Chris came right from his work in downtown Tulsa so he arrived first. Kellie rode along with us and Katie met us there.
During the day Kellie told her students it was her sister's birthday and the entire class called and sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Katie said it was the highlight of her day (til dinner of course).
After dinner Katie went to her high school football homecoming game for a little while, then returned home to presents and a little birthday cake/Reeses bars. YUM!

It is also homecoming at TU this weekend so, as it turns out, she was lucky not to have to travel to Houston. She got to have fun at her first college homecoming bonfire Thursday night, got to celebrate her birthday with her family, and tonight will be going to the TU football game. Apparently there's a rule about not traveling with the team if you are redshirting, so she'll be skipping the away games for the next few weeks. The fall season is over the end of October, so she really won't miss too much. She will be able to play in the spring season, so we're looking forward to that. In the meantime -- practice, practice, practice.

Fun at the Fair

Today Dave took the day off from work and we went to the Tulsa State Fair -- no, not the Oklahoma State Fair -- no, not the Tulsa County Fair. I know, seems weird to me too.

Look at that crazy ride in the distance in this picture. I'm sure the view from the top was great, but the spinning and upsidedown would be too much for me.

We decided to have a jumbo turkey leg for lunch. We each got one but we could have easily split one. It sure was yummy though! We enjoyed a little jazz music while we chowed down.

Drew wants one of these for Christmas. He was adorable, but he really needed more room. He was going crazy in that cage.

We had a terrific time at the fair! It was nice to go early and avoid the crowds.

Today is Katie's birthday. Happy 19th Katie!!! She was supposed to be spending it in Houston with the soccer team, but she ended up staying at school. So now she's coming home later this afternoon and we're going to dinner at her favorite restaurant, PF Changs. I'll fill you in on that tomorrow.
